How to see if your blower motor is the issue?
Don’t you just love going from outside in 90–100-degree weather to inside your home with perfectly controlled temperature set to exactly how you like it? Imagine when you walk inside, and it feels exactly like outside! That’s not fun at all!!
This means you are having HVAC issues, and this can be a hassle to fix, especially when you’re hot & frustrated. Statistics show that in Austin, Texas many of the A/C issues found have to do with the blower motor (about 58%).
Now, we always recommend having work done by a professional just to ensure that nobody is hurt during the process of figuring out what could be wrong with your unit. However, when you do find the issue if it happens to be your blower motor here are some tips and steps you can use:
Check your power
Go to the breaker for your home, and make sure there are no tripped or blown fuses that could affect your home’s air conditioning system.
Your air filter
Check your homes air filter to make sure it is not clogged or dirty, this can cause reduced air flow in the home which would cause higher & uncomfortable temperatures.
Resetting your motor
When doing this step make sure your blower motor is cooled down, locate the reset button (usually on the back of the motor) and push it in if it’s popped.
Check your capacitor
This step is recommended to be done by a Licensed Hvac technician, Check that the capacitor in your system is running to manufacturer specs. If not, this item needs to be replaced.
Check your Rotor
Check that the rotor that holds the fan blower wheel & make sure its spinning with ease.
Motor temp
Make sure the motor in the A/C unit isn’t getting too hot too fast, otherwise this can cause the motor to stop or lock up.
