What is it that your Thermostat does?

Your thermostat is an essential part of your hvac system, as it’s what regulates your unit’s temperature for display. Your thermostat (also commonly known as a tstat) is how you turn your unit on and off.

Let’s slow down though! Before we get into all these potential problems you could be having, let’s make sure you know the functionality behind your tstat and why it’s so vital to your unit.

Your thermostat is the control to your unit, it’s how your unit turns on and off. Your thermostat is the control to your unit & its setting, it helps your unit to understand what desired temperature it’s supposed to be set at.

What could be wrong?

The most common issue a thermostat is to have is, the tstat is not reading the correct or desired temperature in the home. Now, before you panic there are so many reasons this issue can persist, so why don’t we talk about them?

Bad Location?

A bad location for your tstat can cause issues with the readings & temperature differentials on the display, which can result in higher energy consumption, higher electric bills & uncomfortable temperature. Try to avoid having your unit near air vents, cold/warm spots in the home & the tstat’s sensor can be affected as these can all cause inaccurate readings.

Sensors, Ductwork, & Insulation?

Sensors, Ductwork & insulation can all cause irregularities or issues in your tstat’s readings. However, sometimes recalibrating your tstat will solve your issue if it’s a sensor issue still, it wouldn’t hurt to have it looked ay by a licensed tech. Ductwork issues can cause poor airflow, clogged filters, & blocked ducts. These can all Cause issues with your thermostat unit when proper airflow & certain restrictions are placed upon your tstat. Insulation can be an issue when wiring is involved, because if your wiring is rubbing against your insulation can cause a short which can result in inaccurate readings or a faulty thermostat all together.

Dirty Thermostat?

A clean thermostat plays a big role to its functionality, as simple as it sounds a clean tstat can go along way. A dirty thermostat can cause inaccurate readings or disconnection from your system entirely. The dirt, dust, & debris can cause your tstat to ineffectively read the rooms proper temperature or cause issues with calibration from the heating and cooling system entirely.
